Day 4. There was a lot of climbing on that day, with 4 mountain passes: The Radstädter Tauern (1738 M, 5702 Ft); the Katschberg (1641 M, 5384 Ft); The Grossglockner High Alpine Road (2504 M, 8215 Ft); and the Gerlos Pass (1500 M, 4921 Ft). Then a run up the Inn valley passing Innsbruck to one of my favourite hotels The Astoria in Nauders (Website http://www.astoria-nauders.com/). This will be my fourth stay there since 2010. The rooms are very comfortable, the food simple but beautifully cooked and the staff are fantastic. But only 2 nights there this year.

The summiy of the GrossGlockner pass.
The road was only built in the 1930’s and took 4 years to build.
The Astoria at Nauders. This year, my room was a single on the second floor at the front on the left. I was recognised as soon as I walked in and just given the key so I could get my stuff upstairs and have a quick wash before checking in properly. A couple of beers later to cool me down and I was ready for Schnitzel and a bottle of the house white wine. I’ve still got to try out the swimming pool in the basement though. They really do make me feel at home there, and we always joke about my first stay there. I can’t wait until my next visit.
